An industrialist hosts experts at his dinosaur theme park. A power outage causes the cloned dinosaurs to escape, jeopardizing everyone’s safety, including that of his grandchildren. On Isla Nublar, a theme park featuring genetically modified dinosaurs has opened.
Tragedy occurs when a worker is killed by a velociraptor. Park founder John Hammond (Sir Richard Attenborough) invites paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and his assistant Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) to verify safety. They are joined by Hammond’s lawyer Donald Gennaro (Martin Ferrero) and chaotician Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum). Upon arriving, they are astonished by the living dinosaurs but also skeptical. Hammond’s grandchildren, Lex and Tim (Ariana Richards and Joseph Mazzello), participate in the park tour. Sattler leaves to help an ill triceratops. Meanwhile, computer expert Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) sabotages the power to steal embryos for sale, causing dinosaurs to escape, including the dangerous T. Rex, which attacks the children and kills Gennaro.
Malcolm gets injured, leaving Grant and the kids lost. Back at operations, Hammond, Sattler, and the team discover Nedry has locked the computer system after his own demise. They try to restore power to flee the island. After rebooting the system, they realize that velociraptors are now free and stalking them. Paleontologists Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler, along with mathematician Ian Malcolm, are invited to visit a dinosaur theme park created from ancient DNA. Although billionaire John Hammond claims the facility is safe, chaos ensues when dangerous dinosaurs escape.
