That night, Sanjuro discovers Nui’s location and learns that she is guarded by six men. He walks with Inokichi, reminding him to defeat Kohei. Inokichi heads off to confront Kohei, but Sanjuro quickly informs him that the guards have been killed and he needs to inform Ushitora and Unosuke. As Inokichi leaves, Sanjuro enters and swiftly eliminates all six guards. He then frees Nui and reunites her with Kohei and their son.
To create the illusion of a struggle, Sanjuro messes up the room. When he steps outside, he sees Kohei and Nui bowing to him in gratitude, which irritates him. He expresses his disdain for weak people and threatens to kill them if they don’t leave, prompting them to flee. Moments later, Ushitora, Unosuke, and their gang return, mistakenly believing that Seibei’s men are responsible for the guard slaughter. Shortly after, Tazaemon’s silk warehouse catches fire, leading to an attack on Tokuemon’s sake storage.
Sanjuro enters Gonji’s tavern and is taken aback to see the usually grumpy old man smiling. Kohei has left a thank-you note for rescuing them, and Gonji appreciates Sanjuro’s hidden kindness beneath his rough demeanor. However, Unosuke walks into the tavern and starts questioning Sanjuro aggressively. He manages to disarm Sanjuro and stops Gonji from taking Kohei’s note. While searching for Nui, Unosuke learned about Sanjuro’s role in their escape.
